Overview
Getting to Know Your Computer provides the basic information you need to understand the workings of your computer and the terminology or language used by folks when they are discussing computers. Too often we have seen folks left totally out of conversations simply because they assumed that "Computer-eze" is a foreign language! You will not become a computer technician by reading this information but you will become more comfortable with the terms used and more familiar with your computer's insides.
Getting to Know Your Computer tells you about the hardware you own, how to take care of it and how to change it, if necessary. And how it all works together, along with software, to allow you to use your computer for a variety of purposes.
As all the parts of your computer are inter-related, so are the topics presented here. For example, if you are reading about CPU's, you'll be reading about memory, which leads to a discussion of what is a bit or byte, which you need to know if you are adding programs to your computer which may or may not work depending on your monitor resolution, etc., etc.
There are a couple of ways you can approach this information.
- A Table of Contents has been provided which tries to present the information in a logical,
sequence.
- An alphabetical appendix is also provided so you can pick and choose
the subjects you'd like to read about.
